Art

TARGET : To ensure that the breadth of study and knowledge, skills and understanding objectives are being covered through the school.

To encourage and support that art is used in other subject areas where appropriate and supportive to the curriculum.

Overall Objectives

  1. Each year group team to be aware of the breadth of study and knowledge and understanding that applies to their year group for art teaching.
  2. Art has as many cross curricular links as possible throughout the school.

*Self-portraits using a mirror. Inverse-white and black/black and white

*Landform watercolours based on viewed images, applying some techniques used by the great masters

* Make collages using magazine print showing landform

*A closely observed drawing of a West African animal

*Design and invent graphics using a traced outline of their animal drawing

*Making flags of West African countries

*Cities art: Use different media to show different West African cityscapes

*Collage showing a zoom in view of West Africa

*Study and reproduce African art patterns (focus on Kente cloth) through advanced graphics

*Weaving: Research techniques and apply them to their own West African weave based on knowledge of pattern

*Masks: Looking at styles and reproducing through a variety of techniques including using symmetry

*Use one object chosen from their sketches drawn at the World Museum West African collection (Liverpool); draw it in detail, in different media, 3D and in clay

*Reproduce The Ife Head in clay and also produce a carefully observed and shaded drawing
